Strategy

Tampere Music Festivals is a part of the City of Tampere’s public cultural services. Our policies and practices are based on the strategy of the City of Tampere.

Actions

This is how responsibility is reflected in our operations.

Social and economic responsibility

  • We are committed to actively and visibly promoting gender equality and non-discrimination, and we have guidelines in place for reporting and intervening in inappropriate conduct.
  • We apply ‘safe event’ principles at our events and communicate these actively to our customers.
  • We provide clear information about the accessibility of our events.
  • Some of our events are always free of charge, and for most of our events tickets may be obtained using the Kaikukortti card (for further information, see below).
  • We observe health and safety guidelines at our events. We monitor and comply with all current recommendations and communicate these actively to our customers. Ear plugs are available at events that may present a noise level risk for the audience.
  • We offer internships to students, including those who speak Finnish as a second language and individuals from minority backgrounds.
  • We participate in sustainable development projects in the music sector.

Enviromental responsibility

  • We encourage visitors to use environmentally friendly transport options by publishing information about public transport connections and cycling access.
  • We prefer plant-based food. We buy food locally and prefer domestic products.
  • Our contracted restaurants always offer at least one savoury and one sweet vegan option.
  • We minimise raw material or food waste from our operations. If waste does occur, it is donated or recycled appropriately.
  • We avoid using disposable tableware. In situations where it is the only practical option, we use biodegradable disposable tableware.
  • Some of the materials produced for the festival are reusable or recycled.

We are committed to treating all our artists, employees and customers respectfully and equally regardless of gender, race, age, nationality, religion, culture or sexual orientation. The goal of the We Speak Gay community is to make Finland more empathetic and more inclusive, the world’s rainbow-friendliest destination for visitors.

The Tampere Vocal Music Festival is a ‘Think Sustainably’ operator. The members of this service comply with responsibility criteria defined for their respective sectors and thus represent responsible choices for visitors to and residents of Tampere.

We are a member of the Kaikukortti network, the purpose of which is to improve the potential of adolescents, adults and families in difficult financial circumstances to attend cultural events and to engage in the arts as a pastime. Safer Event

The principles of a safer event and harassment contact person.

1. We give space to everyone
All people are equal. You are welcome as you are, regardless of your ancestry, ethnicity, language, nationality, age, gender identity, gender expression, medical condition, political, religious or cultural background, opinion, sexual orientation, family background, disability, social or economic status or any other factor that affects you. We respect the right of self-determination and the right of every individual to be themselves.

2. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or violent behaviour
Everyone has the right to enjoy our events undisturbed.

3. We notice and respect each others’ boundaries
No one is to be touched without their permission, and no one is to be harassed – verbally, non-verbally or physically.

4. Safety is a joint effort
If you experience or witness harassment, discrimination or other inappropriate conduct, please contact the event staff. If your actions offend others, be prepared to listen and to act differently.

If any person violates the ‘safe event’ principles or persists in offensive behaviour despite being told not to, the staff have the right to remove such a person from the event.
